This Week’s Vegan Winners and Losers (22)

Find out who is coming to their plant-based senses, and who is hiding behind nasty fences.

This week’s vegan winners and losers – week beginning 30/04/20187

Going up…

Gregg’s

Well, well, well… after trialling a new Belgian bun recipe that contained milk and egg for “better nutritional value”, Gregg’s has decided to stick to the originally vegan-friendly recipe. Glad you came to your senses. Now get cracking on that vegan sausage roll. Mwah!

Sainsbury’s

I spy new vegan options at Sainsbury’s on the go…

Going down…

Sainsbury’s

Yes, that’s right, Sainsbury’s is both a winner and a loser this week!

It seems that Sainsbury’s is no friend to the chickens at all. Eight years ago, Sainsbury’s promised customers that they would only sell higher welfare fresh chicken. They took out newspaper ads and everything in order to shout about their new commitment. Unfortunately, they have gone back on this promise. Animal welfare charity Compassion in World Farming (CIWF) have expressed their disappointment in the British supermarket chain. Less than 20% of chicken sold at Sainsbury’s is higher welfare. I’m not really into welfarism, but it’s the least we can do if we’re going to kill and eat animals. Very disappointing.
